Journey of the Sorcerer - Theme of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
I have to confess I was never very fond of the movie. But this moment, when the music came on… I will admit I was all goosebumps.
I didn’t know if it would be in there. And then there it was. I was giddy and practically giggling like a child in the theater. There it was and masterfully done, as if someone had poured all their love and affection into that one bit of music. ”Let’s make them happy. Let’s make them cry in joy.” and then they did it.
In fact, I have to credit the music in the entire movie. Joby Talbot did an outstanding job and should be commended, whatever the rest of the movie was like.

Long ago I heard this song, or rather, a part of it. When I was just a little kid my mother introduced me to The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and it’s sequels. She read it to me many nights before bed and I read and do read it over and over again. She showed me the television show and I watched and watch it over and over again. I’ve listened to the radio broadcast and I’ve read the radio scripts. I recite it to myself when I’m bored or need a pick-me-up. I especially love doing Marvin.
A friend of mine said that H2G2 was my Bible. I suppose that would make Douglas Adams my God? I would be willing to say that. I’ve read all the Hitchhiker books, both the Dirk Gently books, I have The Meaning of Liff and my favorite era of Doctor Who is when he was involved in it’s production. I want to read Last Chance to See and The Salmon of Doubt and I feel and immense sadness that I never got to see him before he passed away.
Some years later I would hear this song on the radio and learn what it was and where it was from and would hunt it down. It was my favorite part in the movie, the one point that really felt like the story I knew so well. I liked the movie well enough, but it just didn’t strike the right chords for me. But it had The Song in it and that made me happy.
