Somebody’s doing it right.
A good two-thirds of the world’s art would have to be chucked in the bin.
Artists thrive on inspiration, it drives us and compells us and, while the line between inspiration and duplication is a slim one, the former can almost always be discerned by the way it takes on it’s own life beyond the original creation, while the latter remains a slave to it’s source.
For the first time in years, I watched Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan all the way through.
It’s a movie that holds great meaning for me. It was released in 1982, my birth year. It was the beginning of the golden age of Star Trek, a period that would last all my youth and young adulthood. When I think of Trek, I hear James Horner’s incredible nautical strings and see the movie era Enterprise gliding through space with elegant strength and grace. I see those striking red uniforms and familiar faces.
It stimulates my imagination like few other movies ever have. From joy to sadness to tragedy to hope, it captures the human drama of life and death and gives us tension and excitement in a story of revenge.
Every time I see this movie, I dream… Of the stars. I dream of far off worlds and strange new life froms. Of seeking out new horizons with the spirit of exploration and discovery as wind in my sails.
This is Star Trek as I know it. Inspirational, hopeful and grand. Painted on the broadest canvas - a story filled with The Dream of Stars.

Hands in head, waiting for thought
Sudden light: That’s it!
